Q: Can the MoyerCam™ record?
A: Yes. Files are transferred to computer via USB.
Q: Why don’t you put the camera directly above the keys, or over the pianist’s left shoulder so that it is not between the pianist and the audience?
A: We have tried both and feel they don’t look as good:
Directly above is good in that you can see hand positions; but you can’t easily tell when the key goes down. And the artistry of a pianist is revealed in how the fingers, hands, wrists approach the keys — not easily discernible when the camera is directly above.
Over the left shoulder creates confusing incongruities. As the real hands move toward the audience (as the pianist goes up to the high notes) the hands in video move away from the audience.
These and other camera angles would be fun to add at some point, but we feel the default needs to be in agreement with the audience’s vantage point.
Q: Can the screen shape be modified?
A: Yes. We are able to provide a variety of shapes. You can cut the sheets yourself. However, it is difficult to cut curves perfectly. It is best if we do this for you.
Q: Can the parts be used for other purposes?
A: Yes!
The projector is an “ultra-short-throw” projector which means it creates a very big image in a short distance. It is perfect for presentations in small rooms. It is extremely portable and comes in a protective carrying case.
At request, we can provide you with a rectangular sheet of the screen material, which will stick on nearly any wall surface through its unique cling properties — avoids the need to lug around and set up a portable screen.
The camera can be used like any other video/still camera. It is high-quality (resolution up to 4K), records hours of video on a fingernail-sized SD card, is extremely sturdy, can run on AC or its internal battery. Note, however, that it doesn’t have a zoom feature and so must be placed at the correct distance to capture the desired image. (It can be set, however, to capture an extremely wide area if desired.)
